Cutting on Epicurean Cutting Surfaces will not dull your knives because the surface will score slightly, which helps it protect your knife's edge. These boards are made with a non-porous wood fiber composite from trees harvested under guidelines of the North America Sustainable Forestry Standards. Epicurean cutting surfaces are made up of layers of paper that are then soaked with a food safe resin and cured to create a solid sheet. During the production cycle the layers of paper are gradually bonded with each other to create solid, durable sheets. The final product is exceptionally strong and still maintains a warm and natural look. These cutting boards resist staining and cracking, are nonporous and won't harbor bacteria, and are heat resistant up to 350°. The Big Block Series contains our heftiest designs, excellent for the hard-core chef . These cutting boards are 1-inch thick, which is just enough to bring some counters up to an easier level for food preparation. They have a juice groove around the edge to keep any liquids off the counter or floor. If you find your cutting boards or chopping block top getting worn down very quickly, this is the board for you. You won’t have to worry about splitting or rotting with long term use like you do with wood cutting boards – and as soon as it gets too roughed up for your taste (which will take longer than usual with this material), just sand it down, wash it off and you’ve got a brand new board!
