Pros - small, easy to clean, lightweight, stores easily on any cabinet shelf or in a deep drawer
Cons - grind feature is not as effective as chop, difficult or impossible to find the stainless steel base
Last year, we had some money remaining on a gift card and while we purchased this item almost as an impulse and what a terrific find it was.

Already owning a truly great large capacity food processor, I had already been thinking about  something smaller and more manageable for those nightly meal recipes. I had an immersion blender with an attachment but that broke shortly after we purchased it. Plus I began to learn that as we all get older, you find it becomes more difficult to use a knife for small chopping tasks. Onions, garlic, shallots, even herbs that were once easy to handle become a task and in some cases self inflicting. I hated to admit it but it became very apparent I needed to find a smaller version of a food processor that could be easily used.

Although I can't say I'm very impressed with the grind function. While trying to grind chocolate or nuts, it made more of a smeared mess than anything else. However, the chop function is terrific. Almost every dish we cook that calls for chopped or minced ingredients, this little gem is put into service. From garlic for Marinara to the mushrooms and shallots of a Duxelle for a Beef Wellington Christmas dinner, it performed flawlessly. I've even pureed small amounts of vegetables for certain soup recipes and produced a quick, three serving vinaigrette without a problem.

Although the stainless steel base was impossible to locate, we ended up with a white base and this means it won't be stored on the counter. Yet, I can't say enough how nice and very easy it is to reach up with one hand and pull this out of the cabinet. To use the R-2, it would have taken 5 minutes just to move everything out of the way and then two hands and a healthy back to get it from the cabinet to the counter. Even aftre all that, it would have been way too big for the task at hand. The larger, commercial stuff is still great but I'm finding I just don't cook like that these days.

As far as clean-up, this is so easy. Unfortunately, it is an electrical appliance so you can't immerse the base in water but it does wipe quickly with a soapy rag and the bowl parts wash easily by hand or, if you're not needing it for another task that meal, just place the parts in the top rack of the dishwasher and you're finished. I've also found the chopper blade is easy to hone on a small wet stone.

We've had a years worth of uninterrupted service and my bet is, if it's cleaned and well taken care of, it should last for a good many years. Overall it was well worth the money and I would recommend this for every level of cook.
