Knives don't stay straight on magnetic block

Knife block is working... Not too long ago, the price was reduced for several of the knives that I had wanted before I got my Gesshin Stainless and Takamura Chromax knives, so I used an additional 20% discount and got a selection of the Zwilling Pro knives. They stay straight and even on...

    Whetstone...Tatara? Gourmet Tool? Shapton Pro?

Ok...how about this King 300? Not supposed to sharpen alloys on it because it will clog. Carbon steel only. Now I don't want to use it.

    Whetstone...Tatara? Gourmet Tool? Shapton Pro?

Yes. I didn't see the "." in "1.0 micron paste." And I messed up. I got a 1k and 5k Shapton Pro. They were done with a 2k Shapton glass and 5k Pro. I don't know where I thought I saw 1K Pro. grrrrrrrrrrr I also didn't realize that a regular old flattening stone is wrong. I read the...

    Cutting board ID

That's what I was thinking, and that it's perfectly fine to have/keep/use.

    Cutting board ID

I'm going to make a food prep cart with it, unless I need a different board. I'm using Takamura and Gesshin knives.

    Cutting board ID

I don't remember what my cutting board is and wonder if someone can ID it. I've had it for several years and don't remember where I got it. (had a TBI) It's 18.25 x 16.25 x 2.

    Whetstone...Tatara? Gourmet Tool? Shapton Pro?

On CKTG, I have the Imanishi 1k/6k combo, Shapton Pro 1k, and 6k stones in my cart. I don't figure it's bad to have variety. While I'm there, I'm strop shopping. When I get them, I'll begin with the old knives to get proficient. I'll get a King 300 from Amazon and use it also for flattening...

Knives don't stay straight on magnetic block

Well, if I lower them so the weight of the handles keep them vertical, they slowly slide down. Weak magnet.

Knives don't stay straight on magnetic block

Yes, handles down. It's wood, with a double-T-profile magnetic rubber strip in it. So, 2 grooves in the back of the wood that the magnet is glued into. Like this, with the top facing the wall, and the legs of the Ts glued into grooves in the wood: TT

    Whetstone...Tatara? Gourmet Tool? Shapton Pro?

I need to get some whetstones...My searching has brought me to a few, but I need more insight. Maybe none of these are right, but I'm looking at the Tatara 1k/6k, Gourmet Tool 1k/6k, and Shapton Pro series. The Shapton Pro sprouted from the finish-sharpening card that came with my Takamura...

Knives don't stay straight on magnetic block

I didn't see a better place to post... I have a Zwilling wooden magnetic knife block, 32612-103. I got it for aesthetics, but knives don't hang vertical. I understand magnetic polarity, but why make a magnetic block that makes knives pivot away from vertical? Some only pivot 30-45 degrees...

What is a better purchase than Zwilling or Shun?

ok...I ordered the Takamura Chromax 210mm. I couldn't stand it and need to compare the Takamura Chromax, Gesshin Stainless, and Shun. Yes, I ordered the finish-sharpening on the Takamura.

What is a better purchase than Zwilling or Shun?

My mis-speak. The weight isn't an issue. With the Wusthof, the handle was really heavy and made handling awkward. After handling the Gesshin, it's very nicely balanced and I like it. I think the thickness of the butt threw me off. I somehow had the illusion that it was handle-heavy. Nice...

What is a better purchase than Zwilling or Shun?

The Gesshin Stainless 210mm Gyuto was in stock, so I ordered it. I figured I shouldn't wait for the others to be in stock because then this one might be OUT. I haven't used it yet, but I like the edge shape and overall weight. It's a little handle-heavy, but nothing like the Wusthof I...
