    Best steak ever!

I just did the one with the beurre rouge, no potatoes or peppers. We had baby portobello mushrooms with it and baked potato. We had some escargot for an appetizer, but I had bought them in their shells and prepared ready for the oven. Got them from the gourmet meat market, but won't be buying...

    Best steak ever!

Shout out to @boar_d_laze Was looking through some old posts this morning and found your post from 2008 on finishing steak in the oven. Usually my husband just throws the steak on the griddle. But today we followed your instructions for cooking the steak -searing it first, after marinating it...

    Dried Mushrooms

Thank you all so much for the help. I will grind some up and add to hamburgers when my grandson is here this weekend. I'll use others in soups etc. Had been thinking of using some for the Duxelles in Beef Wellington, but probably wouldn't work.

    Dried Mushrooms

I bought a variety of dried mushrooms, thinking I will always have some mushrooms available when I need them for a recipe. I just soaked some dried portobellos as directed on the package. I sauteed them to go with a steak but they were tough. Are dried mushrooms usually tough? Anyone any tips on...

    Indian cooking

I love Indian curries, I usually make one a week. I promised my husband i would make one a week, but he is in hospital at the moment (been there since January 2nd) so put the cooking on hold as there is only me to eat it at the moment.  My favourite is Butter Chicken :)

What did you have for dinner?

Macmillan dictionary shows it is made with lamb. Jamie Oliver has a page where he also has 10 facts about shepherd's pie, also says where the "cottage pie" came from http://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/dictionary/british/shepherd-s-pie

What did you have for dinner?

I get Australian (or New Zealand) lamb at Sams club, usually about 4lb. We have it sometimes on a Sunday for dinner with mint sauce then will grind the leftover for Shepherd's Pie for dinner on Monday. American lamb is different tasting than the Australian or New Zealand lamb, I don't like...

What did you have for dinner?

I am English by birth (American by choice) and both Shepherd's Pie and Cottage Pie were often dinner when I was growing up. I have noticed that most American's refer to Cottage Pie as Shepherd's Pie. I try and correct them when I can.

What did you have for dinner?

A pet peeve of mine too LOL. I was visiting my husband in the hospital yesterday when the guy that takes the food orders came into the room and asked my husband what he wanted for lunch, he rattled off the choices and one of them was Shepherds Pie. My husband said he would have that. I asked the...

    Thought this was funny

Hopefully this is the right place to post this. Just found this today and thought the chefs here would get a laugh out of it. It's "Things Never Said By A Head Chef" from a comedy show. Hopefully the link works.
