Besides the great pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, I made fabulous hand sliced deli cole slaw and gravlax at age 15 in 1960, on my first job. Graduated to cafeteria cook as a university undergraduate. After college graduation, drafted in 1967 during McNamara's 100-thousand. MOS was infantry but "volunteered" after a few months in the field, to assume the lowly status of cook, after a 122 rocket killed all of my company's cooks, except the night cook. During graduate school, I cooked 7 days a week at a luxury assisted living facility. Spent forty years in both the commercial and public broadcast media, while maintaining with my late wife, a successful catering business.
